MyDearFriend,Mr.Krehl:--Ihavejustheard,throughMr.Wade,ofyourkindoffertobuymeagentledog,andIwanttothankyouforthekindthought.ItmakesmeveryhappyioknowthatIhavesuchdearfriendsinotherlands.Itmakesmethinkthatallpeoplearegoodandloving.IhavereadthattheEnglishandAmerisarecousins;butIamsureitwouldbemuchtruertosaythatwearebrothersandsisters.Myfriendshavetoldmeaboutyreatandmagnifitcity,andIhavereadagreatdealthatwiseEnglishmeten.Ihavebeguntoread"EnochArden,"andIknowseveralofthegreatpoetspoemsbyheart.Iameagertocrosstheo,forIwanttoseemyEnglishfriendsandtheirgoodandwisequeen.OheEarlofMeathcametoseeme,aoldmethatthequeenwasmuchbelovedbyherpeople,becauseentlenessandwisdom.Somedayyouwillbesurprisedtoseealittlestrangegirlingintoyouroffice;butwhenyouknowitisthelittlegirlwholovesdogsandallotheranimals,youwilllaugh,andIhopeyouwillgiveherakiss,justasMr.Wadedoes.Hehasanforme,ahinksshewillbeasbraveandfaithfulasmybeautifulLioness.AndnowIwanttotellyouwhatthedogloversinAmericaaregoingtodo.
Theyaregoingtosendmesomemoneyforapoorlittledeafanddumbandblindchild.Hisommy,andheisfiveyearsold.Hisparentsaretoopoortopaytohavethelittlefellowsenttoschool;so,insteadofgivingmeadog,thegentlemenaregoingtohelpmakeTommyslifeasbrightandjoyousasmine.Isitnotabeautifulplan?Educationwillbringlightandmusiyssoul,andthenheothelpbeinghappy.
