Thetruthis,deathseemstooccurbecausewehavenoideaofwhatlifeis.
Forthosewhoknowlife,deathisanimpossibleword.
Itissomethingwhichhasneveroccurred,neveroccurs,everoccur.
Therearecertainwordswhichareabsolutelyfalse;theytainnotevenaniotaoftruth.
Theworddeathisohem.
Itisatotallyfalseword.
likedeathoccursanywhere.
Butweseepeopledyingeveryday.
Everyday,deathseemstobehappeningallaroundus.
Everyvillagehasacremationground.
Andifweuandrightly,wewilletorealizethatwhereverwemaybestandingoh,thedeadbodiesoftlesspeoplehavebeeedonthatveryspot.
Theverypieceoflandonwhichwemayhavebuiltourhouseshasbeeeryatsometimeorother.
Millionsuponmillionsofpeoplehavedied,andaredyingeveryday.

Wefailtobeeacquaihthelightthatisourvitalenergy,ourlife,ourexistendwearefrightehedarkhatwearenot.
Manisnotmortal,heisimmortal.
Thewholeoflifeisimmortal,butweneverlookattheimmortality.
Weneversearthedireoflife;wedoakeoowardsit.
Andsinceweremainunfamiliarwithlife,weseemfrightenedofdeath.
Sothequestionisnotoneoflifeah,thequestionisonlyoflife.
Ihavebeeospeakonlifeah,butthisisimpossible.
Thequestionisonlyoflife,thereisnothinglikedeathatall.
Whenoneknowswhatlifeis,onlythendoeslifeexist,butwhenliferemainsunknownthereisoh.
Asaproblem,lifeahdonotbothexistsimultaneously.
Eitherweknowwearelife,thenthereish--orwedonotknowwearelife,andinthatcasedeathalohereisnolife.
Theydontbothexisttogether--theyt.
Butweareallafraidofdeath.
Thefearitselfshowsweareunfamiliarwithdeath.
Thefearofdeathhasonlyonemeaning,unfamiliaritywithlife.
Ais,lifeisflowingwithinuseverymoment.
Itisflowingineverybreath,ineveryparticle,allaround,withinandwithout--aisunknowntous?Thismeanonlyohing,thatmanisinadeepsleep.
Onlyinsleepisitpossibleamancouldremainunfamiliarwithwhoheis.
Itboilsdowntothefactthatmanisdeeplyunscious.
Iteanthatthewholevitalenergyofmanisnotscious,notawake.
Whenamanisasleephedoesntknowwhoheis,whatheis,whereheisfrom--everythingislostinthedarknessofsleep.
Hedoesnotevenknowwhetherheexistsornot.
Hebeesawareofhissleeponlyafterwakingup;onlythenheestoknowthathehasbeenasleep.
Insleepamaknowheisasleep.
Whenhewasnotasleepheknewhewasabouttosleep.
Andaslongashewasawakeheknewhewasstillawakeandnotasleep.
Butassoonashefallsasleephedoesntknowheisasleep,becauseifheweretonoticethatheisasleepthenthatwouldmeaillawake,notasleep.
Whenamanisnolongerasleep,onlythendoesheknowhewasasleepbefore.
Insleepoknowwhetheronereallyisornot.
Obviously,manhasnoideawhetherheisornot,orwhoheis.
Thiseahing,thatsomedeepspiritualhypnoticsleepissurroundinghim.

Onawhile,whenanawakenedoakesbirth,wewhoareasleepbeesoangryatthisawakenedpersonthatweimmediatelykillhim.

Thiskindofuandingissimilartoamanmistakierwallofapalaceforthepalaceitself,oramanwalkingontheparapetandthinkingheisinthepalaansleeping,leaningoerwall,thinkingheisrestinginthepalace.
Onewhoseuandingrevolvesaroundthebodyislikethisfoolwhoimagineshimselftobethepalacesguestwhilestandingoutsideitswalls.
Wehavenoaccessihebody.
Weliveoutsidethebody.
Wearefamiliaronlywiththeouterlayerofthebody;weneveretoknowitsinnerlayers.
Wedontevenknowtheinnersidesofthepalacewalls,letalohepalaceitself.
Wesidertheoutsideofthewalltobethepalace,weremainignorantoftheihewall.
Weknowourbodiesexternally;wehavenevergoneinsideahebodyfromwithin.
Forexample,weareallseatedinthisroom;weseethisroomfromwithin.
Aman,wanderingaroundoutside,seesthishousefromtheoutside;hetseeitfromwithinaswedo.
Manisnoteveoseehisownbody,hisownhousefromwithin--heknowsitonlyfromtheoutside.
Andthisgivesrisetotheideaofdeath.
Thatwhichweknowfromwithoutisonlythesheath,itisonlytheouterc.
Itisonlytheouterwallofahouse,itisnotthemasterofthehouse.
Themasterofthehouseiswithin,andwetomeethim.
Wheevenknowthewallfromtheinside,hoeetoknowthemasterseatedwithin?
Thisexperiengoflifefromoutsidebeestheexperienceofdeath.
Whenthisexperienceslipsawayfromoneshands

thedayoalenergytractswithin--leavingthehouse,thebodybehind,andthesciousnessmovesinside,awayfromtheouterwall--peoplelookingonfromoutsidefeelthemanisdead.
Themanalsofeelsheisdying.
Heisdying,becausehissciousnessbeginstomovewithin,awayfromwhathehaduoodaslife.
Thesciousnessbeginstomovewithin,awayfromtheplanewhereheknewlifetobe.
Onitswaytothenew,unknownjourney,hissoulstartsscreaminginagony,"Iamdying!Iamgone!Everythingissinking!"--becausewhathehadsideredaslifeuptonowbeginstosink,todropaway.
Peopleoutsidethinkthemanisdead,andinthismomentofdeath,inthismomentofge,thepersonalsofeels,"Iamdying!Dying!Dying!Iamgone!"
Thisbodyofoursdoesnotreallyrepresentourauthentig.
Deepinsidewehaveakindofbeingwhichisentirelydifferentfromthebody.
Itistotallyopposite,reversetothebody.
Lookataseed.
Ithasaveryhardshellwhichprotectsthetender,delicateseedlingoflifehiddeni.
Insideliestheverydelicatesprout,andatoughwall,anenclosure,asheathcoverstheseedioprotectit.
Butthesheath,theenclosureitself,isnottheseed.
Ifamahesheathfortheseed,hewontbeabletoknowthesprouthiddenwithinit.
Hewilljustgtothesheathandthesproutwillnevereout.
No,thesheath,thecoverisnottheseed.
Orary,thetruthisthatwhentheseedisbornthesheathhastoeffaceitself,hastoburst,hastodiffuseitself,hastodissolveih.
Whenthesheathisdissolved,theseedinsidemasitself.
Ourphysicalbodyisthesheathtainingtheseed,andihereisasproutsistingoflife,ofsciousness,ofbeing.
But,takingthissheathfortheseed,weruinourselvesandthesproutisneverborn,theseedneversprouts.
Oneexperienceslifewhentheseedsprouts.
Whenitsprouts,manceasestobeaseedandgrowsintoatree.
Aslongasmanisaseed,heisonlyapotentiality,ahetreeoflifeisborninhim,hebeesauthentic.
Somecallthisauthenticitythesoul,somecallitGod.
ManistheseedofGod.
Heisonlyaseed.
Itsthetreethatwillhavetheexperiehewholenessoflife.
Howtheseedhavesuexperience?Howaseedeverknowtheblissfulstateofthetree?Howaseedeverknowthatgreenleavesearsomeday,andthatthesunsrayswilldahem?Howaseedeverknowthewindswillpassthroughtheleavesandthebranches,andaresoundingmusicwillemergefromtheirbeings?Howaseedeverknowthatflowerswillbloom,eclipsingthebeautyofthestars?Howtheseedeverknowthat,sittingontop,birdswillsingandthattravelerswillrestintheshade?Howaseedeverknowtheexperiereehas?Theseedhasnoidea.
Theseedtevendreamofthepossibilitiesawaitigrowsintoatree.
Itlyrealizethembybeingatree.
Maknowwhatlifeisbecausehehasbelievedhisfulfillmentisinbeingaseedalone.
Hewillknowitonlywhenhisireeoflifehasmaeditselftotally.
Butthisisafarcrywhen,inthefirstplace,wedontevenrealizethereissomethiingwithinthatisdifferentandseparatefromthebody.
Weareneverabletoremember,torealizethereissomethingdifferentandseparatefromthebodyaswell.
Heherealissueinlifeisexperiengthatwhichiswithin,butwebelievelifetobethatwhichpervadesoutside.
OnceIaskedatree,"Whereisyourlifesource?"
Thetreereplied,"Is,whicharenotvisible.
"Thelifeofthetreespringsfromthoseinvisibleroots;thetreewhichisvisibledrawslifefromtherootsthatareinvisible.
MaoZedonghaswrittenaefromhischildhood.
Hetellsthattherewasalittlegardenclosetothehutheandhismotherlivedin.
Allherlifehismotherhadtehegardenwithgreatloveandcare.
Peopleusedtoefromfarawayjusttoseethelarge,beautifulandlovelyflowersofthatgarden.
Therewasneversohard-heartedapersonwho,passingbythegarden,wouldnotstopforamomentortwoandadmiresuchappealingflowers.
Inheroldagehismotherfellill.
Maowasveryyoungthen.
Therewasntanygrown-uparound,butMaotoldhismothernottoworryabouttheplantsandflowers.
Hesaidhewouldtakegoodcareofthem.
Dayandnight,fromdawntilldark,Maowouldtoilinthegarden.
Assured,themotherrested.
Infifteendaysthemotherrecoveredfromherillnessandcameoutinthegarden.

Iftheinvisiblerootsbegintogaih,theflowersandleaveseontheirown--youdonthavetoworryaboutthem.

Butmanhasuoodlifeintermsoftheouterexpaheflowerandhasedtherootspletely.
Mansinnerrootsarelyiotallyed.
Hedoesntevenrememberthatheissomethinginneraswell.
Andactually,whatsoeveris,iswithin.
Thetruthiswithin,theenergyiswithin,allpotentialitiesarewithin--theymafromthere.
Beingiswithin,beingtakesplaceoutside.
Thatwhichisauthenticiswithin.
Thatwhichexpandsandmasiswithout.
Maionisalloutside.
Beingiswithin.
Thosewhotaketheoutermaionaslife,theirentirelifeisthreatehthefearofdeath.
Theyliveasifalmostdead.
Theyareafraidtheymaydiesomeday,anymoment.
Andthoseverypeoplewhoarefrightenedofdeath,weeparoubledoversomeoneelsesdeath.
Although,infact,theydontreallydfeeltroubledoveranyoh--eachdeathremindsthemoftheirown,andthecloserthedyingpersorohereminder.
Andthenachillgoesuponesspine,feargripsone,onebeginstotremble.
Inthisstateamanthinkshings.
Hethinks,"Thesoulisimmortal,artofthediviheformofBrahman.
"Thisisallrubbish,itisnothingmorethanself-deception.
Toboosthisstrength,onewhoisscaredofdeathrepeats,"Thesoulisimmortal

"Althoughhisbeingshakeswithfear,yetoutwardlyhesaysthatthesoulisimmortal.
Ifamanknowsthesoulisimmortal,hedoesnthavetorepeatitevenonce.
Heknows.
Thematterisover.
Thesepeoplewhoarescaredofdeathtiofearit.
Meanwhile,theyfailtoknowlifeandiariewdeceptionthatthesoulisimmortal.
Thatswhyitisdifficulttofindanationmoreafraidofdeaththantheonewhichtalksabouttheimmortalityofthesoul.
Thatmisfortunehasoccurredinthisverytry.
Ofallthepeopleintheworldwhobelieveintheimmortalityofthesoul,mostareinthistry.
Andinthistrythenumberofcowardsafraidofdeathisthegreatestaswell.
Howdidthesetwothingshappeher?
Thereisnomoredeathforthosewhoknowthesoulisimmortal.
Thefearofdeathhasdisappearedforthem;nownoonekillthem.
Youshouldalsokeepahinginmiheryonekillthem,northeybenowuheillusionthattheykillanyone--becausenow,forthem,theveryphenomenohisfinishedforever.
Thisseeedstobeuood.
Thosewhobelievethesoulisimmortalarepeopleafraidofdeath.
Theyaremerelyrepeating,"Thesoulisimmortal.
